Pre-K students

The West Hartford Public Schools prekindergarten implements the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. This play-based approach is grounded in research and early childhood theory in our 5 pre-k classrooms. Teachers plan for and assess young children's development using the companion assessment tool called Teaching Strategies GOLD.

On-going sustainability initiatives

Sustainability Initiatives at Charter Oak

Charter Oak has many on-going sustainability initiatives and achievements. We have been recognized as a CT Green Leaf School and a LEED Gold School. We also have a parent, teacher and student organization, "Deep Roots," that has helped to sponsor sustainability efforts such as Waste Free Wednesday, recycling, composting, grant-funded silverware and trays and more! We are also lucky enough to have two school teaching gardens and a greenhouse.
