Hi, I’m Principal Juan Melián. I’ve been a part of the West Hartford Public Schools since 1997. My academic journey started as an ESL teacher in the Canary Islands, Spain, where I was born. I have also taught K-12 Spanish in New York. My career in West Hartford began with teaching Spanish at Sedgwick Middle School and has included teaching all levels of Spanish at Conard High School, serving as an Assistant Principal at Sedgwick Middle School, and most recently was the Principal at Smith STEM School. I’ve also taught adult learners as an adjunct Spanish professor at the University of Hartford and a World Language Methods Instructor as part of the Alternate Route to Certification Program.

My own education includes a 1990 law degree from the Universidad de Las Palmas, Canary Islands, a Master’s degree in International Studies from Central Connecticut State University, and a 6th year degree in Educational Administration from Sacred Heart University.

I live in Simsbury with my two daughters, Alejandra and Sofía.
