Our Mission is to inspire and prepare all students to realize their potential and enhance our global community.

Modified Suzuki & Orchestra

The modified Suzuki program at Charter Oak is offered to students Pre K - third grade. Students are chosen for the program through a lottery system.  Students receive two group lessons a week and are expected to practice daily with a parent or guardian at home. All Suzuki students are invited to participate in the Suzuki Spring concert at the end of the year.

Orchestra is open to students in grades 4 & 5. The children have an opportunity to receive group instrumental music lessons. Performing groups, both band and orchestra, hold rehearsals before school and/or at recess time. Members of the band and orchestra perform at the music concerts.

Talented fourth and fifth grade musicians may be invited to audition for the Inter-Elementary Music Festival Band, String Orchestra or Chorus. Students who are accepted rehearse every Thursday after school from January to June, culminating in a final concert at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford.

Ms. Fay- Modified Suzuki & Orchestra

My name is Mrs. Fay and I am the strings teacher at COIA.   I earned my BFA in music performance from Carnegie Mellon and my Masters in Suzuki Pedagogy from the Hartt School of Music.   After  ten years of private teaching I became interested in working at public schools and earned my teaching certification through the ARC program.

When I am not teaching my favorite things to do are  spend time with my family, hike, run, and take karate classes.
