Modified Suzuki & Orchestra
The modified Suzuki program at Charter Oak is offered to students Pre K - third grade. Students are chosen for the program through a lottery system. Students receive two group lessons a week and are expected to practice daily with a parent or guardian at home. All Suzuki students are invited to participate in the Suzuki Spring concert at the end of the year.
Orchestra is open to students in grades 4 & 5. The children have an opportunity to receive group instrumental music lessons. Performing groups, both band and orchestra, hold rehearsals before school and/or at recess time. Members of the band and orchestra perform at the music concerts.
Talented fourth and fifth grade musicians may be invited to audition for the Inter-Elementary Music Festival Band, String Orchestra or Chorus. Students who are accepted rehearse every Thursday after school from January to June, culminating in a final concert at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford.
