March 28, 2015

Good progress was made this past week and the following work was accomplished:

  • Began installation of the temporary sanitary sewer line from Flatbush Avenue to the existing building

  • Construction trailers were delivered to the site Friday

  • Final site demolition continued with the removal of site structures

  • Water connections were made on Sidney Avenue

  • Sanitary and water connections were made on Flatbush Avenue

Planned activities for the next week or two include:

  • Two temporary water lines will be run from Sidney Avenue to the existing school.  This will require trenching across the east side of the asphalt playground surface and will result in a temporary (approximately one week) reduction in the amount of playground space.  The construction fence will be moved today (Saturday) and a secondary orange construction fence will be placed about 10 feet from that fence to create a safety zone.  Once the trench work is complete and the asphalt surface restored, the construction fence will again be moved to restore the asphalt playground surface to its proper size.  As the trench for the water lines moves towards the building, we will need to close the sidewalk between the front center door and the north entrance for the week of April 6-10.  There will be instructions from the school as to how morning lineup and building evacuation plans will change for the week of April 6-10. The sidewalk will be open when staff and students return from the Spring Break.

  • Continue installation of the temporary sanitary line from Flatbush Avenue to the existing manhole in front of the school

  • Continue to strip topsoil and create a "haul" road inside the site

  • Finish installation of the construction trailers

  • Begin to prepare for under the slab drainage of the new school

As a general note, construction crews may be working into the early evening hours in order to accomplish some of this work in order to minimize disturbing the school day.
